Homeschooling’s #1 Way to Save |
Print out your own teacher/student ID!
Virginia Notice of Intent to Homeschool form.
Helpful notes:
- You do NOT have to use the form provided by your County.
- Your description of curriculum only needs to be a basic list of subjects.
- You do NOT have to provide any more information than is require by law (see provided form).
- Unless you are filing under option IV (see provided form – GED), you are ONLY notifying the County of your intent. There is NO approval process!
- Use a means of tracking your delivery of the NOI (fax, email, certified mail, etc), as there is NO requirement for your County to respond.
- If your child is not six as of September 30 of this school year, you do NOT need to submit an NOI or evidence of progress.
- You may withdraw your student from public school at ANY point during the school year by simply submitting an NOI, and notifying your child’s school. You do NOT need to wait until August 15th to submit an NOI.
- If you are a returning homeschooler, your evidence of progress is due August 1st, at the end of the school year, NO MATTER WHEN YOU STARTED. Your NOI is due August 15th for the following school year. You may submit them at the same time; you may also submit them early.
- If you are a licensed teacher, do NOT use the NOI form, which applies to the compulsory attendance statute. Instead, comply with the certified teacher statute by writing a letter to the school board with the names of the students you will be tutoring. Those students will no longer have to report until it is time for your license to be renewed (at which time, you may repeat this process).
